Capitol Burger

This first spot isn’t technically a restaurant. But if you’re in Torrey, Utah searching for “places to eat near me,” Capitol Burger will no doubt appear in your search results

Capitol Burger is a popular food truck based in Torrey. The black and white food trailer, decorated with sketches of burgers, is easy to spot as you’re driving through town. But if you want to make sure to hit up this tasty foodie spot, follow their Facebook page to learn where and when they’ll be parked and open during your visit.

On the menu, you’ll find classically delicious cheeseburgers and bacon cheeseburgers. But you’ll also find some creative options, like the Mac N Cheeseburger, topped with coal-roasted chiles and mac and cheese, and the pastrami burger.

Austin’s Chuckwagon Deli

When you’re looking to make the most of your vacation, a sit-down breakfast or lunch isn’t the best option. Luckily, there are several restaurants in Torrey UT perfect for grabbing a quick meal on your way to Capitol Reef. Austin’s Chuckwagon Deli is one such spot.

In the morning, the menu features Western-style breakfasts great for fueling up before a long day of hiking. Grab a slice of quiche or a delicious frittata, biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches, or a filling breakfast burrito.

In the afternoon, you can get a quick, hot lunch like paninis, burgers, and other sandwiches, as well as salads and wraps. Grab-and-go box lunches are also available and are perfect for taking with you into the park for a picnic.

Hunt & Gather Restaurant

While thousands of restaurants across the nation were closing their doors in the midst of the pandemic, this new Torrey staple was opening them. Hunt & Gather Restaurant was recognized as one of the “10 Utah Restaurants born amid the pandemic to Celebrate in 2021” by Salt Lake Tribune. In its short life, it’s already been named one of the best restaurants in the state of Utah by OnlyInYourState.com.

If you’re looking for an elevated sit-down meal to enjoy during your next visit or the perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion, Hunt & Gather is a great choice. The menu features a variety of unique dishes made with locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients. It’s divided into two sections; Hunter and Gatherer. The restaurant’s aim is to support the Slow-Food Movement, which means focusing on nutrition and preserving the local culture through their foods and ingredients.

On the “Hunter” side of the menu, you’ll find dishes like Broken Arrow Ranch Elk, Orchard Wood Smoked Duck, and Escalante Carnitas Verde. On the “Gatherer” side, dig into the Sleeping Rainbow Plate or the High Mountain Trout. The Cheese & Charcuterie Board appetizer features locally sourced cheese, salt-cured meats, and a variety of accompaniments.

The Gifford Homestead

Another must-stop that’s also technically not a restaurant is the Gifford Homestead. This historic farm and log cabin is actually located in Capitol Reef National Park. The original home was built in 1908 by a settler and farmer named Calvin Pendleton. The Gifford family were the last residents of the home, occupying it for 41 years before it became a part of the national park.

Today, you can tour the Gifford House and barn, and wander the orchards located nearby. And in the farmhouse’s former kitchen, you can purchase a variety of souvenirs, including some delicious snacks. Locally baked fruit pies, homemade ice cream, and a variety of locally made jams and jellies are available for purchase. These delicious treats make for a great snack after a long morning of hiking! Depending on the season, you can also hand-pick fruit to purchase in the park’s historic orchards.

Rim Rock Restaurant

Another restaurant in Torrey UT to try during your stay is Rim Rock Restaurant. Head Chef Bret Saign specializes in preparing homemade meals with locally-sourced ingredients. Western-style spaghetti, steaks, roasted chicken, and their popular Utah trout are just a few of the dishes you’ll find on the menu.

Open daily from 5 to 9 p.m., from the end of March to the end of October each year, the restaurant offers stunning views of Boulder Mountain Plateau.
